ADVENT & Christmas EVE

Advent
I’m Marlena from Poland. I want to tell you about Christmas in my family. Today is the 6th of December and we have Advent. This year it started on 3rd December on Sunday. In this time we can’t make big parties, listen to loud music from loudspeaker and we usually make promises for ourselves, which we must keep to last Sunday of Advent. Maybe I won’t eat sweets? J

Ready?
A week before Christmas Eve, I go to shops with my father. Of course a day or two before I check what my brother and sister want to find under Christmas Tree. Shopping takes few hours. I must come back first (my dad comes back one hour later, because he buys gift for meJ). When I help my mum clean home, my dad comes back and hides gifts. He’s good at that, I never find them. On evening everybody are tired. A few days later my siblings make decorates on Christmas Tree. I, dad and mum cook cakes and other things. My favorites are ginger biscuits. Mmmm…
Sometimes on Christmas we go to my grandparents in village. I member, that few years ago snow has fallen on 1 to 2 meters high. Of course it was great fun with my cousins and kids of neighbors. This year we spend at home.

Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve after prayer we share wafer with each other. Then we can eat. On a table but under table cloth lies some hay. It’s symbol a place where was born Jesus. On a table you can find 12 courses (number of Apostles). After dinner we open gifts. Something about 23:30 we go to church.
After Christmas, I and my siblings have a week of free time without learn. We go to school on 2nd of January.
