Christmas food

TRADITION ABOUT CHRISTMAS FOOD IN POLAND.
Christmas is the most celebrated holidays in our tradition. When we sit down to Christmas Eve supper, we put additional place settings for the ones who don’t have anyone to be with on that night. On that day nobody should be lonely and left. Preparations for this ceremonial meal, start a few weeks before, when gingerbreads are baked, a Christmas tree is brought, fish is bought, which must swim in the bathtub, Christmas ornaments are prepared. In the day before Christmas supper in many houses festive cakes are baked: poppyseed loaves, small gingerbreads in the shape of hearts, stars, fishes, nut cookies. When all dishes are already prepared, planning the table starts. It is formed among others with the peculiar custom of arranging fish scales under the tablecloth for every person dried off, hay or small change, which after finishing the feast everyone from present on the supper is hiding busily to “pouches” so that all through the year he doesn’t run short of money.
